At a recent public meeting at Scoil Mhuire Kanturk, plans were unveiled to develop an equine therapy centre in Meelaherragh,  Kanturk.  This will be established by St Joseph’s Foundation in Charleville and modelled on the hugely successful centre at Liskennet Co.Limerick. Speakers on that evening included David Doyle of St Joseph’s Foundation, Michael Moynihan TD, and Kate Jarvey. Funding of 2.7 million euro has been granted by government to set up the centre and the site was very kindly donated by local philanthropist Kate Jarvey. All About The Christmas Lights In Kanturk

Kanturk Christmas Lights Committee has decided to go ahead & erect as many of the Christmas lights as possible again this year.  They feel that it’s important for the businesses of the town and it creates a feel good factor for visitors and the general public who during these difficult times need a moral boost & a bit of festive spirit.  The Kanturk lights are all new modern LED’s which are energy efficient & cost little to run over the Christmas period. For those who supply electricity for the lights, our electricians estimate the cost will be no more than €30 per business/household for the whole duration from early December to mid-January. We would like to thank all those businesses & households who agree to put up the lights on their premises & houses as well as supplying the electricity at their own expense.

Kanturk Tidy Towns

Link For Kanturk Tidy Towns GoFundMe Fundraiser https://gofund.me/42dc2786 Over the last few years Kanturk has taken very big strides in cleaning up its act mainly due to a bunch of people that are out and about keeping the Town clean & tidy. Due to this group the Town has never looked better with all parts of the Town getting a spruce up from all the incoming roads to the streets and parks, But the more you clean up a place the more jobs you spot that need to be done but this all comes at a cost. Kanturk town is hugely attractive to residents and visitors alike. This is due in large measure to the efforts and time of up to 30 Tidy Towns Volunteers who give of their time throughout the year. The Tidy Towns Committee also take care of the four parks and many other green spaces within the town. Unfortunately all this costs money for items such as flowers, equipment, repairs to equipment, fuel, insurance, PRSI, etc.  In the past our committee held church gate collections to defray exp

Kanturk Courthouse

It was recently revealed that inside Kanturk Courthouse that there were writings on walls of old cells know as " The Bridewell " at the back of the building, written by people held captive during war of independence and civil war which should be preserved for its place in history. This is a landmark & iconic building in Kanturk but this building needs a lot of maintenance otherwise it will fall into dereliction, there is a fine old structure to this building but the roof & inside of the building needs a lot of maintenance work. There are coded messages to families and some about escape plans from the War Of Independence & the Civil War period a century ago. This is all part of history & should be preserved. Just click on the link below to read a Cork Beo Article Link For Cork Beo Article This building simply has to be saved & preserved There has to be a worthwhile use for this loved building.
